design Brief

Design Brief
10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
I decided I'm going make a video using Clip Generator, I'm going to make this video to explain to a sixth grader what exactly the design cycle is.
Formulate a Design Specification

  • Teach a sixth grader how the design cycle works
  • Teach a sixth grader what the design cycle is
  • Make a video that's simple & easy to understand
  • Minimum of 2 minutes long, but no longer than 5 minutes
  • Make it fun & Attracting ( to the extent where you wouldn't mind watching it twice or maybe even three times:)
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
In this assignment I'm required to make it simple enough for a sixth grader to understand, it must be fun :D For this assignment i am required to make my project a minimum of 2 minutes long
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
It cant be really long, for me no longer than 5 minutes, if it is i believe it will be boring & the sixth grader(s) will loose interest in my video.
13. How will you "test" your project?
I will test my project by giving the sixth graders an index card and asking them to state & explain the four main parts of the design cycle.
14. How will your determine your success from your test?
i will go over each index card & determine weather or not the answers they gave me were correct. I will be successful if at least 5 out of the 10 sixth graders answer correctly on the index card.

investigation reflection

I would give myself a 5-6 (95/100) because i have explained in detail what the problem that im investigating is. i have also discussed its relevance to myself, school, and the community. I next compared two websites & gave each a rating which helped me choose which webstie i would use. i created tables & used the rubric to help rate the websites & help me accomplish my goals for the investigation stage of the design cycle.

3 Brainstorming

DESIGN 1
Take separate pictures while holding up a poster boards that say different things to explaining the different parts of the design cycle then put into clip generator to make the product.
Scene1: (Me) Holding up a poster board that says DESIGN CYCLE & shows the picture of the design cycle wheel. & it will explain what the design cycle is.
Scene2: Next i will take another picture holding up a different poster explaining what the first step of the design cycle is, which is Investigation and i will put a picture of investigation.
etc..

DESIGN 2
Make a video explaining each part of design cycle,i will explain a different part and give examples to how it would work. Then i will put into clip generator to make end product.
Scene1: i will explain what the design cycle is.
Scene2: i will explain what the first part of the design cycle is, Investigation, then we will act/show what the investigation part will look like.
And so on and so forth but with different people and different parts of the design cycle

DESIGN 3
Scene1: next i will write on a white paper what the design cycle is & i will draw the design cycle wheel
Scene 2: i will write what the Investigation part of the design cycle is on a different sheet of paper & will then draw a picture of the investigation.
And then i will keep going with different parts of the design cycle

Day 2: Investigation Reflection: Comparison

Today I'm comparing by rating each website on a certain criteria, which are simplicity, theme, music & price. I took all these things into consideration when choosing which website/tool would be best to help me make my  project.
 ANIMOTO:
For Animoto i gave it a 7 in simplicity because i tried the trial and it requires you to make an Animoto Account. It also states that the trial/ video can only be 30 seconds long, & if i remember correctly Mrs.Hinojosa clearly stated that or project must be at least 2 minutes long (I'm pretty sure Mrs.Hinojosa wont allow 4 videos as one project:)

For Animoto i gave it a 5 in Theme because i do like the fact the the pictures go with the music during the video but i don't want that, i need to be able to show a certain amount of pictures in a certain amount of time when i need to not when the music decides.

For Animoto I gave it a 7 in music because Animoto doesn't provide music of any source unless you pay for the Animoto Pro. i would have to upload music from my desktop (that would be a problem because i wouldn't even know how to upload music from my desktop to Animoto). i only gave it a 7 because it does provide some music, even though you would have to pay for it.

My last criteria for rating Animoto is in Price, i gave it a 0 because it does require you to pay to make a decent video. The home page of Animoto clearly states that it is free, when they say its free they're talking about the trial & your first video, but if you actually want to make a decent video you would have to purchase something.

Now that i have rated Animoto and have stated why i gave each rating. It is now time to rate clipgenerator and why i have given each a certain rating.
CLIP GENERATOR:

For clip generator I gave it an 8 in simplicity because i tried the trial and unlike Animoto it doesn't require you to make an account. I have also looked into the amount of time given for each video & it doesn't give you a certain amount of time to make a video. The time depends on the length of the song(s) that you're using so this is simple enough for me to work & for the 6th grader(s) to understand as well. i also noticed that it sends the video to my e-mail which is the only reason why i gave it an 8.

For clip generator I gave it an 8 in Theme because unlike Animoto clip generator lets me determine when my pictures will be switched to the next.

For clip generator i gave it an 9 in music because it contains a lot of the popular song our generation listens to now a days but they also contain oldies, dance, love, & pop. This is one of the reasons why i was immediately attracted to clip generator. I also gave it a 9 because it doesn't have the option of alternative music (my favorite:), but i do feel like it contains music that everybody likes & listens to.

The last criteria I'm rating clip generator is Price, i gave it a 10 in price because in the homepage it states that clip generator is free & in fact it is, not just the trial but the actual video. :)

In the end i decided to choose clip generator because with all my research & comparing i found that clip generator is a better tool/website to help me in creating my project.

THANK YOU<3

Day 2 : Investigation Reflection

Today i decided i wanted to make a video. I went to Mrs. Hinojosa's blog & clicked on the link that said Find a Tool to Create Almost Anything. This Link to me to http://cooltoolsforschools.wikispaces.com/Video+Tools. As i got to this website i looked through most links that are on the website i came to the decision to compare http://animoto.com & http://www.clipgenerator.com. I went through each website & watched each tutorial, I learned that both are very similar, but i also saw that in animoto.com your video syncs with the music you put to it unlike clipgenerator.com. Both allow you to choose from top songs but animoto.com only has a certain amount of songs/genres. I have decided I'm going to use clipgenerator.com because i think it would be easier for the 6th grader to comprehend because i can add text to my video & it will contain the music they like

Area of Interaction: Investigate:

Area of Interaction: Community and Service , Approaches to Learning & Human Ingenuity
Significant Concept: Design Cycle can be used to solve problems
Unit Question: How can my learning help my community? How do I make Sound Choices?
INVESTIGATE: (Write in complete sentences) Identify the Problem
1. What is the problem you need to solve?
Explain to a 6th grader what the design cycle is all about by creating a presentation. (3d, PPT, movie, game, Poster)
2. How does the Design Cycle apply to the real world?
It will help whenever doing any sort of project in life
3. How will this project serve my community?
it will help the sixth grader in knowing ho to properly design a project
4. How can my learning help my community?
it will help get me & my community get successful & it will help in the schools goal to "close the gap" & get 100% of students to college.
5. How do we live in relation to each other?
we live in relation by
6. How does this help others?
it shows how to understand & properly design things
7. What are the requirements for this assignment?
The only requirements are that it must be two minutes long & it has to teach the design cycle to the 6th grader.
8. What is the Design Cycle?
The design cycle is a tool/ series of steps used to design projects & other things of that sort.
REFLECT on your learning.
Day 2
9. Spend one day experimenting with DESIGN CYCLE your presentation. List five things your learned about the Design Cycle:
